The new Marriott Marquis will cost $350 million to build. When complete, it will nearly double the number of hotel rooms right by the convention center.
Ric Campo is chairman of Houston First Corporation.
“It’s really a game changer for our convention district and the ability for Houston to host large conventions. The additional 1,000 rooms will, in combination with our 1,200-room Hilton Americas allow us to move into the next level of conventions, where we can get larger and more robust conventions here. So, it’s a huge economic impact.”
Ira Mitzner is president and CEO of Houston-based RIDA Development.
“This project will create approximately 2,200 direct and indirect construction jobs, extremely important as we try to continue to grow out of our recession, and 700 to 800 permanent jobs once the hotel is open.”
The Marriott Marquis Houston is scheduled to open in summer 2016.
